I'm not sure what to write in here anymore.

I've spent a year wondering about God, I've read the Bible from cover to cover, I've had discussions & arguments with those both spiritual and non...  and here I am:  I believe that there is a God--a higher power that we don't understand--but I really don't know what the nature of that God is, what this God demands of us (if it demands anything of us), if this God actually interferes in our lives or just watches us flail about.

These are all things I have written here before, in one form or another, but perhaps worth repeating.

I was an agnostic bordering on atheism a year and a half ago--I didn't "hate God" (as someone was known to insist at the time), I just didn't consider God.  Now that I consider God, I don't know what to do with him/her/it.

Perhaps I should read the Koran now, and then...what?  The Mormon Bible?  So many religious texts, so little time.  This brings me back to my struggle accepting Christianity: to follow the Christian path is to render all other paths wrong, and I really don't think that God would want it that way.  So much of the spiritual path we choose (Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, etc.) seems based on where we were born, how we were raised, that for God to essentially punish those who choose wrong seems essentially unfair.  I think God, if anything, is fair.

Does that make sense to anyone?

Hey man, just wanted to let you know that I consider myself a Christian (even a quasi-pastor) and I do not believe that following Christ means discounting all other religions. In fact, I am not alone in this thought either. Thomas Merton spent much of his life trying to connect Christianity with other Eastern religions, finding many unknowing Christ-followers in other traditions, you know? I think of John's letter where he writes that 'anyone who loves is born of God and knows God'... I think that sounds more like Taoism or even Brahman in Hinduism. That anytime a person is moving in love towards others, that person is moving in Christ.

Not sure if anyone else has recommended it, and perhaps you are done with reading books, but if not, then check out Brian McLaren's "A New Kind Of Christian". It changed my and my wife's lives. Wow.

Cheers man, cheers to your path of truth, cheers to actually seeking God... I don't do it often enough.

Hi Jef,

there is a difference between accepting the Christian "Religion" as a set of doctrines/beliefs/creeds/dominations and choosing to walk with Jesus everyday.

The difference is massive. The primary goal of Jesus is a relationship with you. The primary goal of Jesus is not convincing everybody that he's right or else!

You've read the Bible for a year, why not give Jesus a month or two and see what's it like? Put aside understanding the Bible as theology/doctrine and take it up as a way to follow Jesus in practical everyday life.

"Jesus, what are we going to do today? How do you want to love me? What do you want to show me?" And go from there.

Salvation is God's business and nobody else. I firmly believe that we'll see a great diversity of people in Heaven, a great number who will have been "non-Christian."

Anyway, didn't mean to write a sermon here! Whatever you decide to do, please keep writing! I really enjoy reading about your spiritual journey.

i get what you are saying. i haven't rejected christianity, but i haven't accepted it either. i believe that the christian god exists, as well as all the other gods and goddesses that people believe in. i don't think you need to subscribe to one religion in order to believe in god. i think you need to listen to your heart and move in a way that feels good for you. if you subscribe to the christian beliefs, except for the fact that everyone else is wrong, then go with it. i believe that whatever higher powers there are, gods, goddesses, etc would have no problem with believing what you want to believe. i think the most righteous thing is to be the best person you can be to yourself and others. its really all we can do, and i don't think any god or goddess would ask anything more.

Matthew 28:18-20 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

This is the great commission, Christ's instructions to me, a disciple, a Christian.

Matthew 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

Can we predict when the end will come? No.
Jesus makes it clear however that the entire world will have the chance to either accept Him, or deny Him before it does.

Will everyone get into Heaven?
Matthew 7:13,14 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few will find it."
Matthew 7:21-23 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

Ah, what then is the "will of my Father who is in heaven."?
Matthew 3:16-17 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a doveand lighting on him. and a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

Is God fair?

This thing we call life, this thing we call earth, this thing we call the universe; it's all God's. He created it. He made the rules. He hid nothing from us, save the time of Christ's return. Is God being fair? Yes. And more than fair, he is just.

The cool thing is that He does this all out of love. A love that we don't deserve. A love that we can't earn, its already ours, we just have to accept it and give ourselves in return.

I praise God for the challenges before you, and for those already surmounted. I pray the Holy Spirit touch your heart in His time.

Peace and Love in Christ

Hi Jeff,I believe everything Mike told you.To add to this ,You must ask Jesus to come into your heart and to forgive you of your sins, this is called being born again. If you are truly seeking to find the truth try this and see how GOD WILL BLESS YOU.There is only one God.If you have the Bible, than you know Jesus said,I[Jesus] am the way,the truth and the light,NO one can come to the Father, but thru me. This is the plan of salvation, meaning,to be saved from Hell and to spend eternity with our Lord .When we die, we will spend eternity either in Heaven or Hell. It,s your choice. Love in Christ

"Is God being fair? Yes. And more than fair, he is just."

"When we die, we will spend eternity either in Heaven or Hell. It,s your choice."

Ha. What do you know of Justice? Or choice? Justice isn't blindly obeying laws, or following the whims of a big powerful being. It's temperance. It's mercy. Power without mercy is meerly force - and force is without thought or care. I submit that to be truely just, one must temper all decisions with mercy. If God does not - meerly damning to hell or ascending to heaven based on simple formula (be it works, or a statment of faith, or wearing a wrist band) - then he is not just, simply a mindless enforcer.

Amen, Doris. God must be the model of altruism

I fully understand your search, tho brought up a catholic, I had questions over the years with doctrines I thot were inconsistent with the nature & truth about God. I have in recent years gained a deeper understanding & faith in God. My beleif is that anyone who is SEEKING GOD SINCERELY will find HIM. Pls read an article on the net "Creation versus evolution[The mountainsvoice_net}"I thot it profound

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that who so ever should believe in Him would have eternal life. (John 3:16)

God is our creator and therefore our Father, He bretahes His Life into us every waking moment, and watches over us, and keeps us out of harms way. He has also given us a choice, simply becuase He loves us sooo much, to choose Him. God is the only one true epitome of what Love is. I am talking unconditional, in its purest form, without reproach, always willing and readily forgiving.

God knew all of you whilst you were in your mother's wombs. He planned every aspect of your life, YOU WERE ALL on HIS mind way before your parents thought about conceiving you.

If you truly want to know the God that loves you so much, open your hearts to Him and He will reveal Hinself.

He is real, and as for the other religions or suggestions, they have ALL taken their foundational basis from God's Holy word, His bible. His word is life changing when applied correctly.

Take a chance and discover your true purpose in life, to live and serve the King ( who has a massive heart).

I pray for all of you on this page who are lost, in the sense of not sure, that as God (My beautiful Father showed Himself to me), that He would show Himself to you.

God Bless,

Ekaete
